Almost Time for Almost, Maine: Rehearsals are Underway!

Rehearsals for Almost, Maine are underway as MHS actors and crew begin bringing the play’s collection of stories about love, friendship, and heartbreak to life.

The work behind this year’s fall drama has officially begun. Rehearsals for Almost, Maine have brought a cast and crew together to build this year’s production.

Written by John Cariani, Almost, Maine takes place in the fictional town of Almost, Maine, which is almost in Canada! A series of vignettes explore relationships, love, friendship, heartbreak, budding feelings, and unexpected connections. Rather than following one continuous storyline, the play is made up of several smaller scenes, each focusing on different characters and their experiences.

For the cast, the first few rehearsals are all about getting familiar with the script and their characters. Actors are beginning to learn their lines, understand the storytelling and emotion behind their scenes, and figure out how their characters fit into the larger world of Almost. Currently, the cast is focused on experimenting, learning, and developing the production together in the early stages, before trying to perfect their scenes.

Since Almost, Maine contains multiple loosely interconnected stories, the show portrays a variety of personalities and relationships. Each scene has its own story, and the setting of Almost is what brings them all together.

Though opening night is in November, members of the production are already working towards creating a show that will be entertaining and meaningful for audiences. As rehearsals continue, scenes will become more polished, characters will develop, and the individual pieces of the play will begin to come together.

For now, Almost, Maine is in its earliest stages. But with rehearsals underway, the fictional town is slowly coming to life on the school stage, and audiences will soon get to see where the cast takes it.

When asked “why theater?” at callbacks, cast member Arshia Mukherjee (a junior who plays Marcie) describes theater as “an escape from reality and a place to hang out with friends”. Yana Mehta (a junior who plays Gayle) says “theater provides a common culture” and a sense of unity among people who share a love for theater!

Friday 11/20, Saturday 11/21, and Sunday (matinee) 11/22 are show dates! Be on the look out for tickets later this fall, and come see a show that dives deep into relationships, romance, heartbreak, and hope.
