The Millburn High School varsity girls tennis team has done it again. On October 12, 2026, the Millburn Millers defeated Ridge High School 4–1 to win the 2026–2027 Girls Tennis North Group III Sectional Championship. Entering the finals as the top seed, the Millers had their sights set on a major milestone: their 40th sectional title. With a strong performance, they accomplished their goal and continued their tradition of excellence.
The Millers delivered impressive performances across both singles and doubles matches, securing all four of their points in straight sets. At second singles, Alisha Mahajan earned a straight-set victory, defeating Isabella Xu, 6-3, 6-4, while third singles player Ava Mondshine posted a 6-2, 6-0, victory over Celina Chen. The team’s success continued in doubles competition, where Vasuda Madhusudan and Sivan Abir dominated Ridge’s Chiara Noble and Carys Dutton, 6-0, 6-0, at first doubles. At second doubles Olivia Liang and Driti Ayinala secured Millburn’s fourth point with a 6-2, 7-5, win over Elizabeth Lebedev and Amina Rachidi. Together, these performances helped Millburn achieve their historic 40th sectional championship.
The championship victory was the result of months of preparation, dedication, and teamwork. The team began practicing on August 10th, putting in hours of practice every day to prepare for the season. All of that hard work paid off as the Millers secured another undefeated season and proved why they belonged at the top.
“We started our season in mid August, a week before most other varsity sports and devoted hours a day practicing. This victory exhibits that sacrifice and hard work pays off,” said senior and team captain Avery Leibowitz.
For the players, winning the sectional championship meant more than adding another title to Millburn’s record. It was a chance to see their hard work come together and celebrate everything they have accomplished as a team. From long practices to competing under pressure, the Millers stayed focused on their goal throughout the season.
