For the senior members of the Millburn Girls Volleyball team, Senior Night was more than just another game win. On Wednesday, September 30, the team recognized their growth, dedication, and memories its seniors have built throughout their high school volleyball careers while celebrating a 2-1 victory against West Essex. Senior Night, an important tradition across all sports, is an evening where students, teammates, and families come together to recognize and cheer for the players who left an outstanding impact on their team and helped shape the program throughout their high school careers, and this year particularly contributing to their impressive 10-11 record. To make this night even more memorable, the Millers will remember their skillful victory and collective sportsmanship that made them secure their first and last sets, 25-19 and 25-10.
On the court, Millburn delivered several strong individual performances. Ava Chen recorded seven kills and added two aces. Her offensive production made her essential in securing the win. The team’s captain Avika Vijayraghavan recorded six kills and one ace, while Emma Krupkin led Millburn’s hitters with nine kills. Yashvi Sinha led Millburn with an impressive 17 digs. Kimaya Pandit helped contribute two blocks, and Riley Breen recorded seven digs and one ace. Millburn’s underclassmen also played an important role in securing the victory. Elizabeth Lipkin recorded 30 assists, helping facilitate the team’s offense, while Aleena Jaffar led the Millers with 15 service points. Isha Tripathy contributed 12 service points and Meera Pandit added two blocks. Meera Pandit, Aleena Jaffar and Isha Tripathy had a significant impact on the victory. Their performances demonstrated the depth of the roster and the teamwork behind Millburn’s win.
For the seniors, the evening was also a chance to reflect on how much they have grown throughout their time in the program. As captain, Avika Vijayraghavan has experienced the team’s development firsthand, learning how to lead both on and off the court. After reflecting on her time at Millburn, she explained how she has grown since freshman year, learning to “communicate effectively, support my teammates, and stay composed under pressure.” She added that she now focuses not only on improving her own performance but also on helping her teammates grow and creating a positive environment where everyone feels supported. With this experience, Avika wishes to pass along valuable advice to younger players, emphasizing the importance of effort, cheering on teammates, and staying focused in practice. “Those small efforts add up over time and make a big difference, not only in your own success but also in the success of the entire team”. Beyond the game itself, Senior Night was especially memorable for Avika because of everyone who came to support the team. She described how much she enjoyed the team’s energy, making the night so much more memorable for herself and her teammates.
The girls currently hold a 10-11 record and look forward to competing in the state tournament at the end of the month. With a three-year sectional championship winning streak at stake, the Millers hope to continue their postseason success.
